Home driver Piero Canobbio will be first off the ramp in the KNRC7 MMC Bamba Rally, which gets underway today in Bamba, Kilifi County.
Canobbio will pilot his new Hyundai NG Rally2 for the first time at the Mombasa Motor Club (MMC) KNRC stage, accompanied by Riyaz Ismail.
Canobbio’s i20 N Rally2 car is the successor to its i20 R5, which currently competes in national and continental championships around the world, as well as in the third tier championship of the World Rally Championship – WRC3.
Another Rally 2, a Skoda Fabia, is in the hands of Raaji Bharij for the Minti Motorsport team. Bharij will take off second.
Championship leaders Karan Patel and Jasmeet Singh Chana are third and fourth respectively ahead of Evans Kavisi, Issa Amwari and Steve Mwangi.
Patel, who currently leads the KNRC protocol with 167 points, Jasmeet Chana – second on 161 points – Issa Amwari, Nikhil Sachania and Evans Kavisi have all confirmed their Evolution X cars, while pioneering driver Maxine Wahome in a Subaru Impreza Group N -Car started.
Other entries come from Two Wheel Drive leaders Leonardo Varese/Kigondu Kareithi, who will be driving a Toyota Auris 2WD, and Kush Patel/Mudasar Chaudhry.
Maxine Wahome is among the drivers recruited for the event sponsored by Kenya Breweries Limited and will be navigated by Murage Waigwa in a Subaru Impreza Group N car which she has driven in her spirited Kenya National Rally Championship campaign.
Maxine is one of five Kenyan drivers currently competing in the FIA African Rally Championship (ARC) series, where she is leading her campaign at the wheel of a Ford Fiesta Rally3.
