A number of senior former Land Department officials have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the fraudulent acquisition and transfer of publicly owned land.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission announced Monday morning that former Lands Commissioner Wilson Gachanja, the former Senior Lands Officer in charge of the coastal province of Zablon Mabeya, and Jabu Salim Mohamed – Physical Planner at the Ministry – have been arrested “for aiding and abetting in appropriating public land by private developers.”
“The public land in question is a public access road – Kwale Diani/Beach Block/1072 valued at Kshs 30,000,000,” said EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak
The suspects are currently being held at the EACC Integrity Center Police Station and are scheduled to be transferred to Mombasa to appear in court on Tuesday 21 June 2022.
“Wilson Gachanja and Zablon Mabeya in particular play prominent roles in the various public land reclamation lawsuits that EACC has filed in court.”
“EACC seeks to hold accountable all those involved in public land grabs. Further investigations into this are ongoing,” said the EACC chief
