SPOILERS ahead Jurassic World Dominiononly plays in theaters now.
And just like that, the Jurassic world trilogy is over. Dinosaurs have ruled the box office and our pop culture for the last seven years as the famous franchise returned to the big screens nearly 15 years after our last visit to Isla Nublar and the prehistoric creatures that interbred with the modern world the Jurassic Park movies. Jurassic World Dominion the latest completed law Era that brings both together park and World characters, along with introducing some new faces. Surprisingly, DeWanda Wise’s Kayla was the biggest scene thief in this new film and the thread I most want to follow next.
The idea I came from Jurassic World Dominion Thinking about DeWanda Wise’s debut in the franchise is actually wild because this is a film that merges the characters of Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard from the previous two films the original trio from the first Jurassic Park Movie. While I liked the Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, and Sam Neill stuff, I felt like the characters that made up the most of this trilogy weren’t as interesting as they used to be. Given this imbalance (and Critics have a lot to say dominations shortcomings), Wise’s presence was a breath of fresh air. Let’s get into that more.
Who is DeWanda Wise’s Jurassic World character?
First, here’s what Jurassic World Dominion founded for Kayla Watts. DeWanda Wise’s new character is a contract pilot who works for Biosyn, the film’s villain gene company. While domination, we learn that Kayla used to be in the Air Force but left for unknown reasons. After she left, she got into the business of moving illegal cargo in and out of Mombasa, and later crossed paths with Biosyn and began working for them, transporting expensive items and prehistoric animals for the company under the table .
After seeing young clone Maisie, previously introduced in Fallen Kingdom, Feeling guilty about being transported through Biosyn, Kayla decides to help Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt’s Owen and Claire get her out of Biosyn. She flies them to Biosyn where they crash due to a herd of Quetzalcoatlus dinos attacking them. After the crash, Kayla teams up with Owen to get past more dinos, and later in the film she’s part of the full cast that reunites for the final act.
Why Kayla is the best character in the Jurassic World trilogy
DeWanda Wise’s Kayla exudes coolness and an Indiana Jones-esque feel Jurassic World Dominion that the film otherwise would not have had. DeWanda Wise brings an authenticity to the character that stands out where other characters take a backseat because they’re crossing through their archetypes and perhaps have exhausted their charms across the three films. Until the end of Jurassic world trilogy, it feels like the filmmakers weren’t inspired by the storyline between Owen and Claire. Instead of developing in a particularly interesting way, her characters were Maisie’s concerned pseudo-parents who happened to be knowledgeable about dinosaurs.
Kayla is the best Jurassic world character because it really encompasses what the trilogy as a whole is trying to say. At the end of the film, he sends a blatant message about the importance of living together in an evolving world. In Kayla’s introduction, she does whatever it takes to survive for herself, but when she realizes something is wrong with Biosyn, she feels guilty and decides to risk her life and job to help strangers. Kayla exemplifies the message of our need to find ways to live in harmony, even in times when it makes no sense or is easier to be divided by differences.
What Colin Trevorrow Said About Kayla’s Future In Jurassic World
I’m not the only one who likes Kayla Watts and wants to see more of her. When CinemaBlend’s Mike Reyes spoke to him domination‘s authors Emily Carmichael and Colin Trevorrow, Kayla was the main topic of conversation when he asked about the future of the franchise. In her words:
Emily Carmichael: “So much will happen. The world is so rich. There will be a Kayla Watts/Zia spin-off movie. I mean, that’s just, literally, I’m proposing that to you now. It’s the first thing the world hears about it.”
Colin Trevorrow: “Not officially, but I support it. And actually, I don’t know if Kayla Watts is a spin-off. I think she’s the main line.”
Kayla had already crossed their minds as they thought about it domination, and that is absolutely the right answer. It seems like even setting up Kayla as a new blood was intentional, just as this trilogy is finishing its storylines for the characters we already know and love.
How Kayla should return to Dominion
Following dominationthe Jurassic world Should the franchise return in the near future, it needs to be turned on its head, and Kayla Watts could be taking it into the future with her unique character. I imagine the next law Era remains in a world where dinosaurs and humans continue to coexist, and Kayla decides to get more involved in protecting the planet. With Kayla conveying some serious Indy vibes, I imagine the next movie would be another big action story, and it could easily follow the cargo pilot on an exciting expedition around the world, perhaps into the black market for genetics, which the movie does a bit has established.
Perhaps Dichen Lachman’s Soyona Santos found a way to keep her business going without Biosyn, and having worked with the company for some time, she would be the right person to bring her down. Perhaps some kind of subterranean dinosaur farm is messing up the ecosystem, and it’s up to Kayla to quietly figure out where the belly of the operation lies.
We’ll have to wait and see how Jurassic World Dominion does the following in theaters Top Gun: Maverick‘s massive numbers before Universal talks about what might come next. Until then, you can look at something else upcoming movies 2022 are worth seeing on the big screen.
