Nairobi – Capital Group Ltd and the World Rally Championship (WRC) have signed an agreement to host the inaugural WRC Safari Rally Koroga Festival in June.
The Safari Rally coincides with the 30th edition of the Koroga Festival.
The WRC Koroga Festival takes place from June 23rd to 26th in the garden on Moi South Lake Road in Naivasha.
Farida Idris, Commercial Director of Capital Group and Koroga Festival Project Manager, thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for initiating and running the sports spectacle together with the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage.
“WRC Koroga Festival will be a four day food, fashion and music festival that will bring together the best talent from across the continent to showcase the best we have here in Kenya and the wider region. We will bring together the best Kenyan DJs and the best artists and create an opportunity to enjoy Safari Rally on a whole different level,” said Idris.
The inaugural WRC Koroga Festival will be the first-ever recreation village to employ, feed and entertain rally fans for four days during WRC Safari Rally Kenya.
“As patron of the Motorsport Association, you have literally ‘taken the driver’s seat’. Having signed a multi-year contract, your legacy will live on with each subsequent edition of WRC Safari Rally Kenya.” She added.
On 26 June 2021 President Kenyatta announced that Kenya will host the WRC Safari Rally every year until 2026.
Presenting the awards to the winners of WRC Safari Rally Kenya 2021 at the Kenya Wildlife Service Training Institute (KWSTI) in Naivasha, the head of state and patron of the rally said the government had secured the rights to host the motorsport event from the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and the WRC after years of intense lobbying and preparation.
The event offers all participants and fans the opportunity to mingle and celebrate the WRC Safari Rally Kenya together.
For his part, WRC Safari Rally Kenya CEO Phineas Kimathi described the new partnership as exciting
“Last year was a momentous occasion for the WRC to return to Kenya after 19 years. It is exciting to have this opportunity for another 6 years. To this end, we are shaping WRC culture by integrating it into our own culture through the opening Safari Rally Koroga Festival and WRC Safari Rally Kenya look forward to partnering with Capital FM and Koroga Festival. See you in June for an exciting undertaking,” explained Kimathi.
WRC Safari Rally Kenya and Koroga Festival, which includes food, fashion and music, brings together artists and musicians from across the continent to celebrate all things African; of food, fashion, culture and Kenyans’ love of Safari Rally.
