Kenya’s COVID-19 positivity rate at 2.7 percent after registering 186 new cases

The Ministry of Health announced 186 new infections on Thursday from a sample size of 6,965 people tested on the last day.

In a press release, the MoH said the new infections, with a positivity rate of 2.7 percent, increased the total number of confirmed positive cases to 251,669 and the total number of samples tested to 2,624,609.

“Of the cases, 88 are Kenyans and 3 are foreigners. 50 men while 41 are women, ”said the ministry.

Trans Nzoia recorded the most new infections with 20, followed by Nakuru, Uasin Gishu and Meru with 19.17 and 14 new infections, respectively.

In the rest of the country, the new infections are distributed as follows: Murang’a 11, Meru 10, Kisii 9, Uasin Gishu 8, Kiambu 6, Bungoma 5, Makueni 5, Baringo 5, Isiolo 5, Tharaka Nithi 5, Turkana 4, West Pokot 4, Kericho 4, Bomet 4, Kwale 4, Garissa 4, Embu 3, Kirinyaga 3, Nyandarua 3, Kilifi 2, Nyeri 2, Siaya 2, Busia 1, Elgeyo Marakwet 1, Kajiado 1, Kakamega 1, Kitui 1, Laikipia 1 , Machakos 1 and Mombasa 1.

A total of 640 patients are currently being admitted to various healthcare facilities across the country, while 1,631 are being treated under the Home Isolation and Care Program.

35 patients are in the intensive care unit (ICU), of which 18 are ventilated and 17 are additionally supplied with oxygen. No patient is under observation.

Meanwhile, 189 patients have recovered from the disease on the final day, bringing the total number of recoveries to 244,935.

“135 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 54 are from various health facilities across the country,” added the MoH.

At the same time, 4 patients succumbed to the disease, bringing the death toll to 5,202.

“All of these are late deaths reported after conducting operational record audits in September and October 2021,” the Ministry of Health said.

As of October 13, 4,340,511 vaccines had been administered across the country.

According to the Ministry of Health, 3,213,661 was the first dose while the fully vaccinated were 1,126,850.

“The uptake of the second dose in those who received their first dose was 33.6%,” said the Ministry of Health.

The proportion of fully vaccinated adults is 4.1%.
