(MENAFN – Bangladesh Monitor) Berlin: The new airline Eurowings Discover of the Lufthansa Group announced that its Air Operator Certificate was issued on June 16. This means that the airline is now ready to take off and its first flight will leave Frankfurt on July 24th.
The foundation stone for Eurowings Discover was laid last year when Lufthansa announced that it would like to launch a long-haul leisure outfit called Ocean. This year it became known that this brand is now trading under the name Eurowings Discover and has taken over the name from the low-cost subsidiary Eurowings.
The airline is initially relying on Airbus A330 aircraft.
The first operation is to Mombasa, Kenya, with an onward flight to Zanzibar, Tanzania. Mombasa is located on the coast of Kenya and is the most important tourist destination in the country due to factors such as the beaches of the Indian Ocean and the diverse marine life.
In addition, the semi-autonomous region of Zanzibar has long been a hot spot. Eurowings Discover is thus getting off to a flying start with popular offers.
Eurowings Discover will not concentrate on one region, but will operate to Punta Cana, Windhoek, Las Vegas and Mauritius in the summer. It also has ambitions to continue expanding over the months, the airline said in a statement.
From March it will fly to the US locations Fort Myers, Panama City and Salt Lake City. Starting in summer 2022, it will then go to Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. In addition, the airline plans to take on wet leases for Air Dolomiti on certain continental flights.
Many regions are still seeing a significant drop in travel when it comes to long-haul passenger activity. But there is light at the end of the tunnel, especially as the EU eases restrictions on fully vaccinated people. Hence, it might be a good time to start a carrier.
