Ruto claims Raila is bribing MPs to defect from ANC, FORD-Kenya

Deputy President William Ruto has attributed the recent defections of western Kenyan lawmakers from the Amani National Congress (ANC) and FORD-Kenya to parties allied to the Azimio la Umoja movement.

According to Ruto, the recent exodus from the Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula-led groups was the result of a well-calculated conspiracy by the former prime minister, which included cash offers to sell said MPs from the Kenya-Kwanza Alliance (the coalition of the UDA, ANC and Ford -Kenya).

“He (Raila) moves around with Ksh 20 million to pay MPs from the western region. Kenyans must rise above the politics of treason,” the DP declared

Ruto says Raila cannot be trusted as he has broken ties with various political leaders, which he called political deception.

Ruto was speaking in Bungoma County, where he was joined by ANC’s Mudavadi and Ford-Kenya’s Moses Wetangula and more than 100 lawmakers as they attempted to publicize the Kenya-Kwanza alliance ahead of August’s elections.

The DP further urged its new-found allies (Mudavadi and Wetangula) not to fall for threats and intimidation, noting that every Kenyan is free to associate with political affiliations of their choice.

“We have joined with other leaders to bring political hygiene to our country, end political deception and transform regions like Mt. Elgon left behind by regressive policies,” he explained

For his part, Mudavadi said the Kenya Kwanza Alliance will seek to unite Kenyans regardless of their social status while promising to lead the economy to prosperity.

“Someone senior in this government once told me they cannot allow the government to be in the hands of someone who is not pedigree. Only the Kenyans will decide who becomes president in the August 9 electionth‘ said Mudavadi

Mudavadi said the ANC party was unperturbed by the recent defection by some MPs, noting it was a clear sign of panic among its rivals.

“The ANC party remains strong despite the takeover of some MPs. Those that are left are twice as powerful as those purchased from the State House/Azimio machinery. We are not moved. I predict the earthquake will deal with the breakaway MPs when the time is right,” he said
