South Jersey Port Corporation is pleased to announce the recent appointment of veteran engineer Chris Perks to the organization’s team. Perks has been appointed Director of Engineering to support the agency’s growth strategy and continue to provide quality customer service to current and prospective tenants and clients. Perks’ appointment comes as the port closed after a record year for cargo throughput and a spate of capital projects, improvements and milestones in South Jersey’s burgeoning offshore wind industry. Ensuring a strong leadership team has been a mission of Andrew Saporito, the agency’s Executive Director and CEO, who has assembled an experienced leadership team since his initial appointment in 2019.
Perks has extensive experience in the local public engineering and construction markets as well as project engineering experience related to the design and construction of large multi-disciplinary projects. Previously, he has successfully participated in numerous capital improvement programs for a variety of clients, including many public and governmental entities. In addition to his extensive public sector experience, Perks has been responsible for the integration and completion of over sixty projects in Camden City, home to the Port’s headquarters and the Balzano and Broadway terminal facilities.
Perks will add value through his rich experience and productive ability to lead all design, construction and maintenance activities in the port. With solid technical skills, Perks is tasked with executing significant tenant improvements, capital projects, major operations and construction programs. In addition, Perk’s expertise will allow the port to rely on its capabilities to manage investment programs, ensure port facilities remain in good condition and meet and exceed expectations for efficient operations.
“SJPC has a long tradition of hardworking employees who go the extra mile for our customers. Ensuring our facilities are up to standards and keeping pace with our growth plans is key to our continued success and customer satisfaction. Having Chris on the team is a critical part of our strategy and we welcome him,” said Andrew Saporito, Executive Director & CEO.
“My experience has taught me that the management of capital programs is not just about keeping the facilities in good shape, it is about supporting operational excellence. I look forward to getting to work and being part of a world-class team whose mission is to expand economic opportunity in the South Jersey area,” said Perks.
