The wife of a Dutch businessman found dead in his Shanzu apartment was arrested in connection with the murder.

Riziki Cherono, the wife of Herman Rouwenhorst, was reportedly picked up by homicide investigators from her home in Bamburi on Thursday.

According to the coastal police commander Paul Ndambuki, Cherono was arrested after an investigation was completed. Mr. Ndambuki said it has since been determined that the widow was the mastermind behind the heinous crime.

Police are also approaching another suspect who appears to have been in constant communication with the prime suspect before Mr Rouwenhorst and a security guard were killed.

She is due to be tried in the Mombasa Courts, where she is charged with murder.

Earlier this week, police announced that the couple’s children, ages 12 and 14, revealed that their mother opened the door to three strange men the night their father was murdered.

The minors told police that their parents were in constant fights and that they were planning to end their 13-year marriage.

“My parents argued a lot and my father had decided to end the 13-year marriage, he told us that he would no longer live with my mother, but he would continue to take care of us,” one of the children shared the police with.

On the material day, the minors said, their mother locked their bedroom door from the outside, but they heard their late father call for help.

“Our father kept screaming for help when we were preparing to go into her bedroom, we found that our bedroom door was locked from the outside and we could not leave the room,” said a minor.

The children informed the police that their mother and the three men left the home shortly afterwards.

An autopsy performed at Pandya Memorial Hospital and Coast General Hospital by state pathologist Johansen Odor found that the deceased suffered a blow to the head with a blunt object before being strangled.
