Unlike wildlife safaris, it is now golf tourism in East Africa

  1. Golf tourism was just launched as a regional tourist sporting event to attract new sport-oriented leisure travelers.
  2. Tanzania’s Minister of Tourism and the Kenyan Minister of Tourism met in the tourist town of Arusha in northern Tanzania to kick off the start of golf tourism in East Africa.
  3. Special sports tourism packages will then be arranged for international golfers visiting Tanzania.

Tanzania and Kenya, the two leading safari destinations in East Africa, have just launched Golf Tourism as regional tourism sporting events designed to attract new types of sports-minded leisure travelers from the East African Community (EAC) region and parts of the world.

The tourism ministers of both countries have agreed to introduce and promote golf tourism between the two countries in order to attract sports tourists to their days in the region.

Golf tourism would also attract world class golfers to visit the region and then spend their days on specialty golf courses in Northern Tanzania and Kenya.

Tanzania’s Minister of Tourism Dr. Damas Ndumbaro and the Kenyan Tourism Minister Najib Balala met in the tourist town of Arusha in northern Tanzania to give the go-ahead for golf tourism in East Africa.

Now golf tourism will soon be the other attraction or tourist product to attract regional and international visitors who would then combine their visiting routes from wildlife safaris and beach vacations to golf tees.

Special sports tourism packages will then be arranged for international golfers visiting Tanzania. The president of the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU), Chris Martin, expressed confidence, saying Tanzania needs to set up golf courses to attract international players and tourists.

Around 140 golfers from 13 countries, including the United States, Australia, Canada, Belgium, the Netherlands, England, China, Kenya, India, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Uganda and host Tanzania, started at the first “Kili Golf” tourism event.

Sports tourism was not part of travel campaigns in Tanzania and the introduction of golf tourism would attract more spending as tourists would stay in Tanzania for more days to enjoy golf tees.

Golf is one of the sports that attracts large numbers of tourists and grosses more than $ 20 billion a year worldwide.

For this reason Tanzania has decided to enter tourism marketing with golf tournaments.

The town of Arusha is a base for tourists who have booked in the northern safari parks of Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro, and the Serengeti.

With the aim of marketing the East African region as a single tourist destination, tourism ministers and representatives of the regional protocol of the 6 member states have agreed to set up the annual EAC Regional Tourism Expo (EARTE) to improve the visibility of the region and improve marketing it as the sole tourist destination.

East African countries will host a major tourism exhibition this coming weekend in Arusha, the safari town in northern Tanzania. It is the first and most important tourism exhibition in East Africa.

The exhibition has attracted participants from the member countries Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan to present their tourist attractions under the umbrella of regional integration in tourism.

Tanzania and Kenya supported free movement of regional and international travel after the presidents of the two neighboring states agreed to improve regional travel and passenger movements.

the African Tourism Office (ATB) is currently working closely with several African travel destinations to improve travel within Africa through regional tourism platforms.

The East African bloc is now a good example of regional tourism development under a single platform, for which the African Tourism Board is committed to development across the continent.
