NAIROBI, Kenya November 4th – Senator Moses Wetangula has been blessed by his Ford Kenya Party to compete for the presidency in next year’s general election.
The Senator from Bungoma was confirmed Thursday during the party’s National Conference of Delegates (NDC) in the Bomas of Kenya, despite an order from the Dispute Tribunal of Political Parties (PPDT).
âI accept the honor you have shown me as the party’s standard bearer and the leeway you have given me to involve my brothers and sisters in broad politics, recognizing that no single politician can go the way alone “, Wetangula said in his acceptance speech in front of a packed auditorium, in which he stated:” In 2022 I will form a government with others or others will form a government with me. ”
The Wetangula faction of Ford Kenya is one of the partners of the One Kenya Alliance (OKA), which has promised to run a presidential candidate in the coming weeks.
Among the invited guests of the NDC were Wetangula’s co-managing directors in the Musalia Mudavadi Alliance (ANC), represented by Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper Party) and Gideon Moi (KANU).
âGod knows who the OKA’s presidential candidate will be. I hope it will truly be yours, Moses Wetangula, “said Wetangula, adding that” Kalonzo and I have served this nation as foreign ministers with honors. So when it comes to what we can do in this country and what my presidency can do when my brothers give me the opportunity to wear the coat. It is to ensure that Kenya takes its stage and the right position on the world stage and is actually a peacemaker in the region and on the globe. ”
At least one person was shot and seriously injured during a riot in the NDC sacked by Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi-led faction of Ford Kenya.
The dispute occurred during the election for new officials, but there were conflicting reports about who exactly opened fire.
Journalists covering the event said they heard gunshots in the auditorium before an ambulance took the injured person to the hospital.
The session was briefly suspended before resuming.
Wamunyinyi said the meeting of the group led by Moses Wetangula was held in violation of an order by the Tribunal for Party Political Disputes (PPDT) that prevented both factions from holding delegate conferences.
“We as law abiding Kenyans and Ford Kenya as the rule of law party were quick to consult citizens and decide we obey court orders. Violation of a court order is the kind of people we deal with,” Wamunyinyi said on one Thursday Press conference.
But Wetangula defended the meeting and his group, saying that they were exercising their democratic right.
âThis is a party where democracy is thriving,â he said, thanking delegates for their support and assuring: âAfter my election as President, I will ensure that Kenya takes its stage as a peacemaker in the region and around the world enters the world stage. ”
The Party Political Disputes Tribunal said it had suspended the NDC under an emergency certificate pending a hearing and decision on a motion filed by Crispinus Barasa.
“That the pending hearing and determination of the motion of the petition from November 2, 2021 is and will be issued interim orders that prevent the second defendant from proceeding with the NDC,” the tribunal decided.
During Thursday’s NDC in Kenya’s Bomas, Musyoka scourged her critics, calling them “politicians seeking votes in board meetings” in an obvious reference to Vice President William Ruto.
âThose who say we are politicians in the board live in fear. We build our arsenals, we can play around on how to save a nation, âhe said.
The Wiper leader poured cold water on Ruto’s bottom-up economic model, saying he had ruined the economy in his ten years in government.
âThey give alms to young people in rallies without clear structures for dividing the money and some are mutilated as a fight for the money. We want to let Kenyans know when you get handouts and even ask for more, âKalonzo said.
Malala, speaking on behalf of Mudavadi, said they will not shake hands after the elections and urged anyone willing to join them to “do so now”.
âOur message is that once a government is formed, there will be no handshake. If you want to join us, do it now. They won’t be another handshake once we form government, âsaid the Senator from Kakamega.
